This year, at least 140,000 children nationwide will be injured in falls from playground equipment. In fact, of all serious playground injuries, about 9 out of 10 are the result of falls--causing head and/or internal injuries, fractures, and in some cases, even death. The lifetime healthcare costs resulting from these accidents, and the subsequent legal action against communities and school districts, will run into the tens of million of dollars.
